Call all nerds, geeks, home-school parents – build an education alliance?

What in the world am I talking about?  An Education Alliance…okay, we’ll call it a club…maybe a group…whatever you call it….here’s the idea.

computing_students_by_lawrence_berkeley_national_laboratory_scaledI have a ton of things I’m interested in learning, Amie calls me a nerd…a geek, whatever it is, I have an insatiable hunger for knowledge.  That’s great Brandon…go learn….the problem here is that I don’t have the funds to buy all of the education I’d like, of which is a very wide variety.

The thought of an education alliance, a group of people who enjoy learning, contribute $5-10 monthly to grow and share a library of resources.  A lot of what I’m looking at is from The Great Courses.  They have great curriculum in almost EVERY subject matter.  IDEAL for homeschool students/parents to add some variety to lessons but I’m as much interested for me as I am for my kids.  They run specials every month with different sets put together to help save money as well.  We certainly wouldn’t be limited to this company though…

The details aren’t worked out and I don’t know anyone already doing this so I’m just curious if there is anyone else interested in something like this.  Reply here or e-mail at brandon@baronsinc.net me if you might be interested.

I’m Lovin’ It

McDonald's I'm Lovin' itThis morning, after fighting with the alarm, we finally got up and around.  Got the kids off to school…that 7am bus is a killer when you have 2 2 year olds to get ready and get them on it.  This logo to the left is how I feel this morning…

Got a full plate of stuff to do today but it always starts out best with my Bible reading and prayer time.

We had “church” last night at the coffee house.  It was church minus the steeple…it was good, had 3 teens, 3 kids, & 6 adults…hey, Jack, it’s a start.  It’s the most clear vision I’ve had since our resignation.

The title to my devotion this morning was, “Checklist Before Taking New Territory”  In Joshua 1:2-3 it says in the Amplified Version – Moses My servant is dead. So now arise [take his place], go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land which I am giving to them, the Israelites. Every place upon which the sole of your foot shall tread, that have I given to you, as I promised Moses.

As I seek God’s direction for my, my life, my family, and my ministry…I seek CLEAR VISION.  We should all have that, a clear vision of exactly where God wants us, what He wants us to be doing, how He wants us to do it.  There should be no doubt that you are serving God where He wants you.  That’s my prayer this morning, that God would clear the vision for me…as it comes into focus that I’d be willing to make the appropriate steps to move into the new roles that He is placing me in.

Be blessed today…God loves you and so do I.

Good Morning!

Well…here it is, January 9, 2013 the day Kylee Elizabeth~Sud Morris turns 15.

Happy Birthday Kylee

Look what a difference 5 years makes…

The big ONE-FIVE!  Talk about making someone feel old!  We had a good day yesterday…she went with me into town yesterday evening to do some QuickBooks POS training…while we were waiting on Paula at The Crossing for things to settle down, Kylee and I played some Chess and just had a little daddy/daughter time.  I love spending time with her…Guys if you have kids, spend time with them…not just time, but quality time, talk to them, but even more important, LISTEN to them.

My devotion comes out of 2 Corinthians 10:4 today, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.”

We think about war today, but this is not the type of war that Paul was dealing with.  The weapons he is referring to are not knives, guns, bombs, explosives, weaponsthat we tend to think about.  To me the weapons he is talking about are a lot more deadly.  The Corinthian church that Paul was dealing with was using weapons such as manipulation and intimidation to gain a “stronghold” in the church during that time.  However, Paul’s weapons of choice were prayer and proclamation of the gospel.  As believers, like Paul, the weapons we fight with are “might in God for pulling down strongholds.”

Christians to not live by conventional wisdom  and we do not fight our battles with conventional weapons.  The cause of Christ is never advanced by carnal actions or methods.  Our spiritual weapons, weak by the world’s standards, are more than sufficient to see us through and to defeat the enemy.  Living according to God’s Words is the way of inner peace, continuous joy, and spiritual victory.

That’s good stuff there boys and girls…when you are facing difficulty with people or things…YOU don’t have to battle them, and what appears to be a physical battle turns into a spiritual battle and when we fight with prayer and the Word of God…NOTHING can stand against it.

Today is going to be an AWESOME day, you should repeat that and then live it!

What a GREAT weekend!

We had an AWESOME weekend!  It’s funny how it doesn’t take but one thing to

whosawesome

happen during the weekend to define the whole thing.  Obviously everything I did this weekend wasn’t awesome but it’s all in your perspective.

I abhor moving, but despite moving we had a great crew to get it done and it got 98% done minus a few small things and defiantly all the big things.  We had Amie Grace, Kydee, KuKu, JuJu, G, A, and Ryan.

After we got done moving JuJu I got to meet an awesome family and do a little computer networking work for them thanks to another friend, Glen Casto.  I didn’t tell her this but, her family/kids are AWESOME!  The epitome of manners…although it was a little weird being called sir so many times…lol  You just don’t see that too often.  I also appreciate the invite to your church in Plainview.

Then yesterday, Sunday…having my new found Sunday liberty…not liberty to go or not to go to church, but WHERE because church attendance isn’t a requirement to being a Christian but it’s a privilege and a blessing as well as an American freedom (for now) that shouldn’t be taken for granted.  I go to church, not be a Christian but because I am a Christian.

We went to church at Centerville Assembly of God with Pastor Jeremy Bull…what an AWESOME service…the whole thing was great.  Let me just say, Rachael Bull can SANG!  Also missed Josh Foster and Becky Bodiford.

Sunday evening we went to “Deerwood Assembly of God”  NOW, I KNOW that it’s not called that anymore, it’s something like “Family Worship Center” or something like that.  Well, we went to what I had in my head “Family Worship Center” in Hattiville…guess what, they don’t have Sun. evening service.  Finally made it into Morrilton in time to catch Kevin West preaching the house down.  Love visiting with old church family and friends there too.  Kevin West, Ronnie & Terri Willcutt, & Ray & Ardellia Smith.

There is so much I could say, I might edit this post a little more later today and finish tagging some people in here…until then, have an awesome day!

Useless!

Good morning…here is a list of useless facts (you may have to click on the image to read it), you could bore the pants off of

more-useless-facts

someone today should you choose to.  Please make sure you’re at home if you choose to do this though….certainly not at Wal-Mart because you’d end up on www.peopleofwalmart.com…WAIT let me warn you, if you haven’t been there, you WILL lose sleep over this!

Did you know Satan’s job is to steal, kill, & destroy?  He’s good at his job too.  He wants you to feel useless, like you can’t make it.  You’re not good enough.  You don’t read your Bible enough.  You’ve been hurt at church and can NEVER go back.  People have done you wrong, don’t go to church. etc. etc. etc….these are all lies that Satan feeds into your being.

DO NOT let him feed your soul…you deserve good things.  You don’t go to horrible resteraunts when you go out to eat, do you?  You go to places where you like the food but too many times we choose to listen to the bad, the negative, and we stew on it EVERY DAY…it makes NO sense, other than Satan is just good at his job.

My devotion this morning comes from Psalm 119:83, it says:

wineskin

I’m as useless as a wineskin that smoke has dried up.
But I don’t forget to follow your orders.

What in the world does that mean!?  A wineskin in Bible times was used to transport water, wine, or even milk and they were made from animal skins.  As long as they were being used, they were great for this job.  At times if they were left empty for any length of time, became weathered or got to close to heat and/or smoke they would dry up and become useless.  Like a dry rotted tire, they don’t hold air.

That’s what this particular scripture is talking about.  Satan wants you to feel useless, but the psalmist is reminding you DO NOT forget God’s statutes.  I’m reminded of the scripture, I love this one, Jeremiah 29:11, it says: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Do you know what that REALLY says, it says that you are NOT useless, it says that God has plans for you.  It says, Satan, you are a liar.  If you are feeling useless to God for ANY reason, it is a lie from the pits of Hell, it doesn’t matter what you’ve done, what you’re going through, what you went through, why you went through it.  It doesn’t matter if you haven’t been to church in years or even if you’ve been going to church and got your feelings hurt…God loves you and He’s not finished with you…will you let Him use you?  Today God wants to be closer to you than ever before and it’s not even a church day…

Hey, be blessed today, you ARE loved!  If you need prayer, e-mail me at brandon@baronsinc.net.  If you are encouraged by this, leave me a message.  Have a BLESSED day!

Beautifully Imperfect – Already messed’em up?

January 3rd…how are your new year resolutions coming along?  Already Beautifully Imperfectmessed’em up?  A lot of you already know about my resolutions as far as health and fitness go…let me just tell you that yesterday was HORRIBLE as far as my plans…maybe they got messed up a little, but FAILURE it was not, after all it’s only failure if you QUIT.  I didn’t cheat yesterday, it just wasn’t the best diet day that I’ve had, but certainly not the worst day I’ve ever had.  I also didn’t blog yesterday either and it is a DAILY goal of mine…BUT, here I am…I did not QUIT this either.  I came across this picture this morning after reading my devotion, it just fit too well not to include it.

Let me just say that I am totally stoked. Upon weighing in this morning after

muscle

getting up and getting the coffee on, my weight this morning was 201…dropped two pounds since yesterday!  Now, I didn’t do as well as I wanted to yesterday but results happen when you don’t quit, just because you didn’t do as well as you wanted to it doesn’t mean that you have failed.  So today is a NEW day.

DEVOTION FOR TODAY

My devotion for today came out of Psalm 119:33 it says “Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end.”

Three things you find in book of Psalms over and over again: knowledge, understanding, and wisdom.

KNOWLEDGE is that which is gained by our education and what we are taught. UNDERSTANDING speaks more of discerning, which enables us to see the sense in what we have been taught.  We need inner illuminations to discover what the teaching means to our lives.  WISDOM, on the other hand, is a gift from God.  James referred to wisdom as coming from above in James 3:17.

The psalmist made it clear that de desired to know God’s will in order to do God’s will.  He was both teachable and had a desire to learn.  There is a tone of humility and and dependence…he was not filled with just intellectual curiosity but also a desire to comprehend God’s truth in order to use this truth in a life of obedience to God.

We NEED to apply this to God’s word…not just know it, and understand it, but pray that God would give us the wisdom to apply it.  THAT is when the fruit starts spilling out of us and not only is God pleased but people start seeing the fruit of your knowledge and understanding of God and your relationship with Him.

The same should apply daily to ALL of our resolutions, if they are truly worth keeping.  We should PUSH ourselves to be THE BEST that we can do, first with God, then with everything that He has given us.

Be blessed today, read His word, seek knowledge and understanding, pray for and ask for wisdom to apply it.  Not only is it God’s will for you and your life, that is what makes a leader.  You are loved today…

Hope you are blessed and encouraged by this…leave a comment if you are reading this, I am certainly reading them and it encourages me as well.  Now for my coffee and then the gym.

2013 – Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Good morning!  Well, that’s what it is for me…It’s the first day of the new year, like most of you I’m trying to turn over a new leaf, new years resolutions, etc.  Part of that is blogging…DAILY…about…well, everything…life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and everything in between….including ministry, business, technology, daily devotions, and fitness & nutrition milestones and setbacks.

Last year, 2012, was awesome!  I learned things about myself, about ministry, about many things.  Let me just say, I wouldn’t take it back if I could!  I entered my second year as Pastor at Liberty Grove Assembly of God.  Having just resigned my position there as of this past Sunday, let me just say it was a GREAT experience!  I learned more about myself, others, and about God than I ever have before.  I truly, honestly love everyone that I served with and pastored at that church.  I hope that some of them have an opportunity to read this and understand that as I left and we partook of communion together, that I left anything that wasn’t of God at the altar.  I DID learn a GREAT deal and am totally stoked about our next phase of ministry.

As I approach my leaf turning, my daily devotions will always come first!  I’m up this morning at 5am.  My house is quiet, only the light roar of my computer fan humming and the sound of God along with my Bible and a couple of devotional books that I use during my study time.

Psalm 119:2 says Blessed are those who keep his statutes
and seek him with all their heart—

What a GREAT scripture to start of this new year with new commitments not only to myself or to your self but also to God!  Most everyone knows a half-hearted commitment will kill a relationship, be it with a wife, girlfriend, a ball team, or a work force.  A house divided shall not stand!  It simply doesn’t work.

When Jesus was asked to declare the greatest commandment in the Word of God, He gave us Matthew 22:37-38  Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.  There doesn’t leave much wiggle room here…He said with ALL your heart and with ALL your soul, and ALL your mind.  This goes far beyond church attendance…this is being completely and wholly committed to God.

This is really summarizes my study this morning.  Put God FIRST in all things, love him with all you have.  Dedicate yourselves to Him first and all the other things that we have to accomplish in life will come together.  Whatever it is…in my case, it is God first, then my wife and family being a husband, father, and son, my self, including diet & fitness and general overall health, then my friends & ministry.

It’s interesting when I put it in writing, my priorities, that it looks weird that ministry would come last.  Technically it does come last but in context ministry is in everything we do, it’s in our relationships with our family, our friends, even how we take care of ourselves and our business.  It shows our values, our love of God, and priorities to everyone we come in contact with who wouldn’t normally be involved in our ministry at all.  It’s almost cliche’ any more but it still applies.  Our life is the only Bible some people will ever read.  Make sure it aligns it self to the context of the Bible that you have, stay in it, read up and prayed up.

Be blessed today, and this New Year.  Happy New Year to all of my friends, Facebook friends, and soon to be friends.

My Stupid Mouth

Ephesians 4:29. Paul writes, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Christians are not only supposed to stop saying bad things, but to begin to say things that will help build others up.

There are people all around that are starving to be built up with encouraging words and Jesus loves those people!  What will you do with that information?

Personal Battles

A spirit of religiosity…It’s interesting, I see that spirit a lot. I personally feel that I don’t have that particular problem…good thing since I deal with other various problems…just not that one.

What is interesting about this you may ask. Since I can’t hear you, I’ll assume you did, in fact, ask and I appreciate that. Thanks!

Due to the fact that I don’t have this spirit of religiosity, I can’t just accept things…because of this I find myself wrestling with God in areas of my life…reminds me of this scripture:

So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” The man asked him, “What is your name?” “Jacob,” he answered. Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.” Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.” But he replied, “Why do you ask my name?” Then he blessed him there. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.” The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip. (Genesis 32:24-31)

Sometimes I have to wonder or even question God or what appears to be God in my life and/or the events and circumstances in my life. Don’t get me wrong, I serve God, God is FIRST in my life. There is ONE God, and I trust Him with all that I have…I worship Him and Him alone. But one who doesn’t question anything in there life, how human and truly Godly are they?

I know the word says that “I will never leave thee or forsake thee” and I take that at face value, then I find myself wondering if I’ve left God at times. Does this make me a better Christian? Perhaps a worse Christian? Who knows…all I really know is that I do all that I can to be pleasing to God, to one day hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant, enter in.” not only that but to see all of my friend, family members, and acquaintances join me around the throne of almighty God worshiping together with no sickness, no strife, no quarreling, WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE!

A Cheerful Heart…

Proverbs 17:22  A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up like bones.

I had the opportunity to preach on this the other day, but I did NOT include this verse.  The theme was basically that passion is contagious, good and bad.  That passion can be your attitude, good or bad, an outreach, a sport, a hobby, you name it when you are gung ho about something and you start sharing your enthusiasm, people jump on board.

Have a cheerful heart, it’s contagious!  People enjoy being around happy people and it in turn makes them happy.

Since you’re here, let me share some of my favorite videos with you…these should make you laugh.

I can’t take credit for this…this is Scotty Manning’s fault…if you read this…thanks buddy…I owe you, I’ve lost brain cells over this!

I don’t know where I came up with these

I’m just going to stop here because I could waste entirely too much time with this junk…

Be merry and take someone with you…
